My first experience of eyebrow grooming was tweezing my own brows after a girl in 7th grade made fun of how unruly they were. In retrospect, my eyebrows were actually just fine! If I had left them alone and gone to see the right eyebrow aesthetician from the beginning, I may have avoided years of eyebrow ups and downs.
Which brings me to our latest video with LA eyebrow guru, Helena Tamargo! Some of her clients include stars like Selena Gomez and Chloe Moretz. She’s really a magician when it comes to eyebrow transformations.
When I started seeing Helena, my eyebrows weren’t as awful as this throwback photo to the left, but they sure weren’t my ideal shape. I always dreamt of thick, bushy, Brooke Shields eyebrows, but didn’t think I had enough hair achieve anywhere near that fullness. But through a mixture of following Helena’s grooming advice, tinting and regular eyebrow grooming appointments with her, my eyebrows are bushier than I could ever imagine! And my face is framed in a way I never thought possible. And we haven’t reached my full eyebrow potential yet!
So watch as Helena takes us through a full eyebrow grooming session, gives eyebrow maintenance tips, shares her favorite eyebrow products and some fire dance moves!
Felice’s POV on Drunk Weather Music Video Makeup Looks
I’ve planned quite a few indie music video shoots in my day, but Drunk Weather was by far the easiest to plan and coordinate. In a very short amount of time, Jeffrey and I had all the makeup, hair and wardrobe looks locked in thanks to our shared vision and super organizational skills. A big help was that I could just focus on the styling with Jeffrey because all of the technical aspects were handled by Sleep, my music producer and also the director, DP and music video producer for this shoot. Together, we’re all definitely #TeamEverything.
3 Tips for Planning Music Video Makeup
Have a pre-production meeting with your makeup artist in advance to plan out the looks. This is super important so there are no surprises the day of. Also, it allows your makeup artist a heads up so they know what tools to bring on set.
Start from light to dark. Don’t plan your smokiest eye look first. If possible, coordinate the shot list with your director to make sure that your lightest makeup looks are shot first and darkest ones are shot last. This is not always possible, but if you can swing it, it really helps keep the makeup transitions quick especially when you’re under time constraints.
If you’re on a low budget, ask all supporting on-camera talent to come makeup ready to the shoot with natural, base makeup done. That way, your makeup artist only needs to add to their makeup to match the vibe of the shoot.
Jeffrey’s Pro Tips for Drunk Weather Music Video Makeup
The Overall Look
For the makeup in Drunk Weather, I wanted smokey definition to the eyes and glowy, natural skin with nothing looking too heavy-handed. I wanted to create that “done, but not overdone” vibe. One thing I needed to be mindful of was the lighting setup for the shoot. Because it was dark and vibey, I had to go with more defined pops of color and highpoint highlighting for the camera to pick up. This is where the glitter, highlight, and metallics definitely came into play.
I applied individual lashes so we didn’t need a heavy liner, I simply smudged the lash line with Corrupt from Makeup Geek to give the depth and definition of eyeliner without harsh lines or added heaviness to the eye look.
The Brows
We also opted to keep the brow very natural and not overly cut out using Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Medium Brown. The less defined brow matched that at-home, with the girls, soft glam vibe we were going for.
The Lips
For the lips, we selected a muted pink tone, Makeup Geek’s Iconic Lipstick in Gullible topped with a clear gloss for more reflection to compliment the rest of the makeup look.
And that’s how we created the makeup looks for Felice’s “Drunk Weather” music video! You can create beautiful looks too for any shoot using these tips. Learn more about Jeffrey and Felice here.
